About Michael Spelman

Just because he was below your radar doesn’t mean he wasn’t there.  Mr Spelman has been sowing media discord with his sarcasm, non-linear editing skills and propensity for filing and light typing for about as many years as fingers are necessary to make two fists.

Working from windowless basement offices, this figurative and literal puppetmaster distills dissent to burn his effigies of the reviled. His stopmotion claymation short "Brave New City" skewers the Madison, Wisconsin city officials, who welcome tax-dollar-sucking  gentrification under the guise of "promoting the arts." In the half-hour documententary "Sub Mission," Spelman and his collaborators capture the commaradery of creative protest, while the short "A Battle for the Status Quo" blurs the line between documentary and mockumentary.  His continued work with the Philadelphia based olive Dance Theatre has resulted in live video choreography, the short narrative "83" and a feature length documentary currently in development.  In front of the camera, Spelman discusses trash, bicycles and over-consumption in "Pedalphiles," a documentary by Prolefeed Studios founder Brian Standing.
